Western Stars drops June 14th!

After a year-and-a-half as a Broadway star, Bruce quickly returned to the studio, and has announced Western Stars, his first album in over five years.  We here at Legends of Springsteen are very excited to bring you round-the-clock coverage (or maybe just an album review and possibly a live concert review).  The first track, "Hello Sunshine", should drop tomorrow, although if you sleuth around the interwebs you can find it now.  Get hyped!

The 1/19 Chicago show now available to download for free

With a major snow storm wrecking the east coast this weekend, Springsteen had to postpone his highly anticipated return to Madison Square Garden on Sunday night.  As a "thank you / I'm sorry" to the fans, he has released a live recording of the 1/19 Chicago show for free.  It is only available for 48 hours, so if you are interested, make sure to grab it quickly!  You can download the show here.

Official - Springsteen Tour in Early 2016

As first fake reported here, Springsteen has confirmed a short, two month, 24 show tour, officially called "The River Tour".  Brucespringsteen.net is currently offline, but you can find the details on numerous other music websites (I found it on Pitchfork).  We here at Legends of Springsteen will be eagerly awaiting the news of when the tickets go on sale, and what shows we'll be able to attend.  Happy holidays, indeed!

UPDATE: Tickets for all shows go on sale Friday, December 11th, at 10AM EST.

Breaking News - Springsteen to Play SNL, 12/19 (Also, a 3 Month Tour!)

Yesterday, Springsteen announced that he would be performing on Saturday Night Live on December 19th, with hosts Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.  Even though The River is probably the least classic of Springsteen's classic albums, I must say I am loving the hype around the upcoming box set (moreso than last year's Outlaw Pete hype).  Speaking of hype, Springsteen also released another performance from the Tempe tour that will be on the aforementioned box set:

Here, we get a new piano introduction for the song, leading up to the iconic harmonica.  There aren't many performances of "The River" that would rival that from the 1975-1985 live set, but this is pretty darn close.

EDIT TO ADD: There's also a three month tour coming!  No dates or cities announced yet, but man, this is quite a shock.  I am still processing it.

Breaking News - "High Hopes" Video Released, New Album Announced

Well, once we were treated to a fantastic studio version of "Dream Baby Dream", the rumors started to swirl.  Today, everything became official: a video was released for "High Hopes", and an album by the same name was announced for January 14th.  Like Wrecking Ball, it's a not-quite-E-Street album, featuring a lot of Tom Morello (he's listed on eight of 12 tracks).  Upon first listen, "High Hopes" has that same "angry mob" sound that characterized Wrecking Ball stand-out tracks such as "Death To My Hometown" and "Shackled and Drawn".  While it isn't as catchy as "We Take Care Of Our Own", this song, as well as the aforementioned "Dream Baby Dream", have me very excited for the new album, and, more importantly, the (potentially) forthcoming tour.

New Single Announced: High Hopes

Happy Thanksgiving everyone, we have a new Bruce single. Billboard (and various other outlets) reported today that Bruce's next single will release this Monday (11/25). The single is "High Hopes" and many are speculating that this gives truth to the rumors of an early 2014 album release. Nothing in today's announcement gives any indication of this track supporting a full album, so we advise against getting too excited about the prospect of an album. For now, just appreciate the new tune! Many have heard it before (I was nodding my head to it just this past weekend on E Street Radio) as it's been played live in concert and appeared in the documentary Blood Brothers. Interestingly, the track is a cover of a 1990 song by a band called The Havalinas. By my count, this makes it Bruce's third single that's a cover; following "War" and "Santa Claus is Coming to Town."

Here's the original song, I imagine we'll see its views skyrocket over the next week.

Edit, 11/19: The track has already leaked.

Bruce working on next album!

BRUCE WORKING ON NEW ALBUM!

We will have a new video spotlight up later today, but for now we are happy to announce that Bruce has recently told Rolling Stone that he and the E Street Band, plus Tom Morello, have started working on some new material together. Very little details were given, and no release date was mentioned.  But still this is very good news for Bruce fans!

Breaking News - Springsteen to Perform Benefit Concert at MSG

On December 12th, Springsteen, along with a random assortment of stars ranging from Paul McCartney to Kanye West, will be performing a benefit concert for victims of Hurricane Sandy at Madison Square Garden.  While the mainstream media has moved on from hurricane coverage, there is still many people who are suffering, who have lost their homes and possessions, who have missed work, and who desperately need help.  It will take a long time for the East Coast to recover, and kudos to all involved in this project for continuing to raise money and awareness for these people in need.
